New Year, New Goals!

It’s 2020 now! Cool Number… notice that you only get to see once a repeated number in the year in a lifetime (20).

I usually do not set specific goals in order to get them done by the end of the year and this has made me a little bit of a procrastinator. I want to change that, as you know, anything that gets measured gets managed! Remember that you gotta be SMART when establishing your goals:

  • Specific (simple, sensible, significant)
  • Measurable (meaningful, motivating).
  • Achievable (agreed, attainable).
  • Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based).
  • Time bound (time-based, time limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive).

I could do this to myself but I want to make it public so you guys know what are the plans for my project “chemical engineering guy”. I want to be more open and transparent… I think this makes more authentic my website!

Anyways, these are my goals, in order of priority:

Create more Courses!

Yep, more courses… I get a lot of requests of new courses, some broad courses (Chemical Engineering Equipment) and other are very specific (polymerization of X material under Y conditions using Z equipment).

I will try to make my best to do applied theory courses, seemingly, the audience is more interested on that rather than specific solved problems.

My promise – at least 6 Courses of the following topics:

  • Batch Distillation
  • Binary Distillation
  • Vapor-Liquid Equipment
  • Liq-Liq Extraction
  • Reaction Kinetics for Chemical Reactors
  • Chemical Reactor Engineering – Isothermal (Part I)
  • Chemical Reactor Engineering – Nonisothermal (Part II)
  • Energy Balances
  • Oil & Gas Industry related courses
  • HYSYS – Bootcamp
  • HYSYS – Oil & Gas

By the way, I will also try to improve/renew/update the following courses:

Start Vlogging

I should have been started video blogging since I started back in 2014… Back then I was very shy and didn’t know if this project was going to work. This scared me a lot! Now I feel more prepared and, honestly, I really don’t care that much about others opinions!

Since I was a student I remember the lack of material to study from on the internet, mainly YouTube. I really thought that by now there will be lots of resources, but I see that is yet not true! Its pretty hard to find some vloggers talking about ChemE!

Not only that! I keep watching channels of very niche applications (gaming, makeup, fashion, slow travel, fast travel, video making and so on) yet, I don’t see any new Chemical Engineering content.

The Internet needs some quality vlog on Chemical Engineering, I hope I can achieve such standards!

I might create a 2nd channel or do it directly on my existing one.

Achieve these milestones

Very simple stats, yet powerful:

  • 50K YouTube Subscribers – currently I have 35K subs, growing at 700-900 subs per month… I will need to grow at least 1200 per month!
  • 5K Newsletter Subscribers – Currently, I have 3K which I have obtained in about 3 years… lets see if I can get 2K in this year alone!
  • 3x Website Traffic – Status quo of my website is approx 3K visitors per month. I will then need to achieve 10K per month! It is a great challenge but I’m confident that with more blog posts I will make this possible!

Post more on my Blog

As you can imagine, in order to achieve the tripling of my website traffic I will need more blog posts! I need to commit to posting at least 1 per week!

That makes 52 posts per year!

Doesn’t sound that much but if at least each post gets 120 visits per month, then I will be able to get to 10K visitors per month at the end of the year!

Talking about posts, most probably I will be uploading to my LinkedIn as well as LinkedIn Groups.

Any ideas of blog posts are welcome, please mail them here

Write Two E-Books

I love E-Books! Those are great to read, specially at work hehe… I’m going to prepare a Free and a Paid E-book:

  • Surviving Engineering – The Complete Guide
    • Free E-book on tips and guidelines to survive studying engineering: school, hobbies, projects, networking,  internships, resources, etc… Get on the waiting list here!
  • Learning Process Simulation – A Comprehensive Method
    • An E-book showing some of my video-courses. Meant for those who hate video lectures. Get on the waiting list here.

More Instagram!

I will also try to increase my Instagram activity. Specially Instagram Stories + Posts. Let it be: 52 posts + 12 stories!

Increase Membership in Groups

As you may know, I have created several groups in order to create communities related to chemical engineering. These are:

Feel free to join!

Start a Patreon!

Yep, I’m preparing a Patreon Account, still haven’t work that much in it, but I will be launching it soon for those willing to support my work outside courses and e-books 🙂

Those are my goals of 2020… those are not written in stone, but will definitively work towards that!
